A field of our research is composite materials and smart structures. Composite means consisting of two or more distinct parts. Thus a material having two or more distinct constituent materials or phases may be considered a composite material. Properties of composites are strongly influenced by the properties of constituent materials, the distribution, and the interaction among them. The performance of composites is superior in terms of improved physical, mechanical, and thermal properties(specific strength and modulus, elevated temperature stability, thermal conductivity, and controlled coefficient of thermal expansion), although substantial technical and infrastructral challenges remain. The research of smart structures encompasses design of structures and control of structural vibration and noise using piezoelectric materials and composite structures. The applications of composite materials and smart structures are used in automobile, airplane and satellite.
