Composites are being used widely and continue to expand in various industries such as aerospace and automobile structures due to high specific strength, high specific stiffness and long fatigue life. As such, joints are essential for connecting different parts and the joints become the weakest part of the structure because of discontinuity. In this study, experimental investigation followed by finite element analysis(FEA) of composite/steel bonded joints with three different overlap length on the fatigue load is conducted to estimate fatigue life of the joints. Based on the fatigue tests and analysis results, a calibration method for predicting fatigue life of the bonded joints has been proposed. The proposed method was verified by comparing the experimental results with the predicted fatigue life under different design parameter conditions.
