    An visualization study on the both unexcited and excited inverse diffusion flames has been
    performed. The effect of acoustic excitation on the velocity field has been investigated. In our previous
    studies about heat transfer characteristics of impinging inverse diffusion flames, we found that the heat
    flux of impinging inverse diffusion flames could be enhanced significantly by acoustic excitation with
    loud speaker. The purpose of this experimental study is to explain the heat transfer enhancement effect
    of the acoustic excitation on the impinging inverse diffusion flames. To figure out the reason for this
    phenomenon, we measured flow velocity in reacting field by PIV technique as the first step of
    investigation. The air jet spreading of the flames was observed by high speed camera. We found the
    velocity fields of impinging inverse diffusion flames were changed greatly by acoustic excitation. For
    normal case, the fastest flow velocity occurs at the nozzle and slow down gradually until the jet hit
    the impinging plate. However, For excitation case, the fastest flow velocity occurs at near the
    impinging plate.
