A three-dimensional finite-element model is developed to simulate the response of the cochlea to the
bone conduction (BC) and air conduction hearing pathways based on μCT imaging. The model
indicates that the basilar membrane (BM) responses are determined by the anti-symmetric pressure
component between the scala vestibuli and scala tympani, regardless of the direction of inertial
stimulation to the model. The model can be used to analyze several pathological conditions such as
superior-semicircular-canal dehiscence and otosclerosis as well as to reveal the mechanism of hearing
pathways. Additionally, simulation results can suggest us a new clinical treatment for the above
pathological conditions.
