ABSTRACT |
ESDU 89027 gives equations for calculating the temperature and stresses at any point when the inner and outer surfaces are at different constant temperatures. They require a knowledge of the temperature at which there is no thermal stress and the thickness should not exceed 10 per cent of the radius. The analysis is elastic and assumes that the material properties are temperature independent. The layers can be of different materials, and the thermal resistance of a bond can be allowed for as another layer. The expressions given determine the temperature at any point and, for a sphere, the circumferential stress or, for a cylinder, the circumferential and axial stresses. In addition, expressions are given for the pressure exerted on the bonds between the layers. A worked example illustrates the calculation procedure. |
