ABSTRACT ESDU 93030 introduces a Fortran program, ESDUpac A9330, that calculates the stress concentration factors from polynomial equations that were fitted to a wide range of finite element calculations and reproduce them within 2 per cent. For plain and countersunk holes stresses due to remote tension and out-of-plane bending are considered. In addition, for plain holes the effect of pin loading is simulated by a cosine pressure distribution constant through the plate thickness and unaffected by any distortion. For countersunk holes, the ratio of shank length to plate thickness can vary from 0 to 1 (pure conical hole to constant diameter hole) and for both hole types the diameter-to-plate thickness can vary from 0.5 to 5. The program is provided on disc (uncompiled) in the software volume and compiled within ESDUview, a user-friendly shell running under MS DOS that prompts on screen for input data. A worked example shows the format of the input and output data; the latter gives stress concentration values at 21 equally-spaced positions along the bore, and maximum and minimum values with their exact locations. Graphs illustrate the effect of varying the major parameters on the distribution of stress along the bore. Comparison of the results with other available data is made.
