ABSTRACT |
ESDU 85028 extends the scope of ESDU 84031 to include bearings operating with superlaminar lubricant flow, which can occur either at high speed or if a low viscosity lubricant is used. The conditions under which superlaminar flow is likely are defined. ESDU 84031 is used to select the lubricant viscosity grade, bearing overall size and proportions, groove dimensions, and running clearance. Then ESDU 85028 provides a method of predicting the eccentricity ratio, power loss, lubricant flow rate, bearing and lubricant temperatures and lubricant film thickness in superlaminar flow. A flowchart guides the user in the use of the method which is illustrated with practical worked examples. See ESDU 93006 for a computer program implementing the analysis and design method developed here. |
