ABSTRACT |
We have made a transonic wind tunnel test of an HLFC wing model with a new leading edge suction system incorpolated with a natural laminar flow airfoil to check mainly a drag reducing effect of the suction system in transonic Mach number range. The test has confirmed that the system works well on both design and off-design conditions: it can produce significant drag reduction in a wake drag with even small amount of suction quantity. Besides the drag reducing effect, it is found that the system produces considerable lift increase for some suction quantity range in wide range of test Mach number. The lift increment generates higher L/D value than that expected from only the drag reduction. |
