ABSTRACT |
National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL) is developing a new in-flight simulator named MuPAL -alpha. MuPAL stands for Multi-Purpose Aviation Laboratory. MuPAL-alpha is based on a Dornier Do-228. It is equipped with a Fly-By-Wire control system and a Direct Lift Control system to enable variable stability and response capability. MuPAL-alpha can simulate the motion of various types of aircraft, including gust responses and motion in the event of system failures. An experimental cockpit in the cabin provides a flexible environment for research on pilot interfaces and the effects of motion cues. The data acquisition system is characterized by its ability to handle the data from a variety of sensor systems as well as its sensors with a high level of accuracy. MuPAL-alpha is expected to make a major contribution to such areas as flight demonstrations of guidance and control technologies, research on human factors, evaluation of on-board equipment and so on. This report deals with the requirements, on-board systems and development schedule of MuPAL-alpha. |
