ABSTRACT Until recently very little experimental data has been available on the performance degradation of airfoil sections resulting from rime or glaze ice accretions. The test program described in this report provides some of this needed information. Its primary objectives were: (1) To examine a method of simulating ice accretions with wood shapes which were instrumented with surface pressure taps to obtain detailed aerodynamic data; (2) To study the complex flowfield in the area of the ice accretion through these pressure distributions; and (3) To evaluate the accuracy of the theoretical analysis methods presently utilized. This paper is primarily a data report and presents information taken on the 63A415 airfoil. Further analysis on other classes of airfoils is required to fully analyze the icing problem and to refine conclusions drawn from the results of this test.
